APGAP Mentorship Group Leader Introductions

We would like to introduce our seven awesome Mentorship Group Leads that have volunteered their time to share their knowledge and experience with others. We greatly appreciate them and we can't wait to get these groups started!

Laurie Newton, DNP, CPNP-AC/PC
Laurie Newton is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner in acute and primary care and a member of the pediatric otolaryngology division at the Medical College of Wisconsin where she has practiced at Children’s Wisconsin since 2006. Dr. Newton was recruited to the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing after completing her Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree and has taught since 2015 as a clinical associate professor. 

Dr. Newton has a deep understanding of the needs and challenges of APPs through her own practice, teaching, and committee service as past chair of the APN Discipline, current chair of the Children’s Specialty Group (CSG) Professional Development Committee and member of the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) leadership team at Children’s Wisconsin. She has been an elected board member for the Society of Ears, Nose, and Throat Advancements in Children, and is a current member of the Association of Postgraduate APRN Programs (APGAP). 

In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Newton is the Assistant Director of APPs with a core responsibility of developing and overseeing a centralized pediatric APP fellowship program, which formally launched its first cohort in January of 2022. Prior to this launch, her team studied how they could improve orientation as well as support during the first year of practice for new APPs hired into all pediatric specialty practices at their institution.  As faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Nursing, her scholarly work focuses on innovation in nursing education. Her dual roles as a clinical provider and nurse educator gives her first-hand experience with the needs of novice APPs during transition to practice and fellowship experiences.

Jaime Fox, DNP, CPNP-AC/PC

Jaime Fox has been a certified pediatric nurse practitioner in acute and primary care at Children’s Wisconsin since 2003 with experience in Pediatric Hospital Medicine, Pediatric Critical Care and Pediatric Transplant. In addition, Dr. Fox serves as a Children’s Specialty Group (CSG) Advanced Practice Provider Assistant Director. Dr. Fox has a degree in Cell Physiology and obtained her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in 2010 from Marquette University where she has taught as adjunct faculty in the College of Nursing graduate program since 2014.     

Dr. Fox is a member of the Association of Post Graduate APRN Programs (APGAP) and has served on multiple local and national committees including Pediatric Hospital Medicine APP national leadership, clinical practice, finance, and centralized orientation, among others. She has attended the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) Leadership Academy

Dr. Fox brings experience with program development designed to support the advancement and growth of new APPs to the project team. In 2017, she established an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Pediatric Hospital Medicine team at Children’s Wisconsin for which she developed an orientation and continues to provide education for new APPs. Additionally, Dr. Fox has experience mentoring medical and nursing students, residents, and staff. She has been a facilitator for multiple interprofessional provider workshops to enhance communication, understanding, and respect among various workers in the healthcare environment and participated in multiple research initiatives addressing clinical outcomes, nutrition, and the development of APP teams. 

 

Allison Duey-Holtz, MSN, CPNP-PC

Allison Duey-Holtz, is an APRN and member of the Department of Pediatric Orthopedics at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), practicing at Children's Wisconsin since 2004. At Children’s Wisconsin, Ms. Duey-Holtz also serves as the Children’s Specialty Group (CSG) Advanced Practice Provider Assistant Director-Fellowship & Operations. This is a 1 year centralized pediatric specialty APP fellowship in which APP fellows gain clinical and professional experience through multiple pediatric specialty rotations and experiences.

Ms. Duey-Holtz has held positions such as the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) WI Chapter President, Secretary, and Chair of the NAPNAP-Pediatric Orthopedic Specialty Interest Group. She has also served within her organization as the APN Discipline Chair, APP Lead-Department of Orthopedics, and elected Surgical APP for the CSG Provider Board.

Ms. Duey-Holtz an experienced educator whose scholarly work focuses on the role of preoperative medical optimization and interdisciplinary care of children undergoing complex orthopedic procedures. Ms. Duey-Holtz is the receipt of the MCW Educator Award, WI Chapter APN of the Year and Children’s Wisconsin APN of the Year awards. She co-developed the Children's Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Mentoring program which fosters the transition to practice for novice APNs. Ms. Duey-Holtz provides local, regional, and national trainings in pediatric musculoskeletal care and educates APP students, fellows, and medical students. She is a graduate of the  MCW Leadership Academy. She utilizes acquired knowledge from the Leadership Academy and leadership expertise gained through experience to co-develop a personal, professional and leadership curriculum designed for APP fellows and novice APPs within the organization. 

Michelle Dawson, MS, AGACNP-BC

Upon graduation from the 3rd cohort of the University of Maryland Medical Center's Critical Care NP Fellowship in 2014, I began a full-time critical care position as well as served as a co-coordinator to the UMMC NP Fellowship where my passion for education and program development emerged.  Our family moved to central Virginia in early 2019 where I currently practice in the Thoracic and Cardiovascular ICU at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville.  

With the support of many incredible colleagues, I also helped develop an APP Fellowship program with two tracks:  critical care and neurosciences, where I presently serve as the director.  I am also actively involved in multiple educational, quality improvement, and strategic UVA systems-level initiatives.  My passions lie in cardiovascular and obstetric critical care, point of care ultrasound, APP education, systems improvement, and leadership. 

Frannie Lorenzi, MMS, PA-C

Frannie grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and completed her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences at Marquette University in 2012. She then went on to receive her Masters in Medical Science at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine in 2014. She joined the University of Colorado's Division of Hospital Medicine in March of 2015 as an Advanced Practice Fellow and has been a faculty member since completing her fellowship.

She is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine as well and the Co-Director of the Advanced Practice Fellowship in hospital medicine, and her focus lies in Post Graduate Medical Education as well as APP Faculty Development. Clinically her interests lie in inpatient medical oncology and general medicine patients. She hopes to spark other APPs interest in medicine through innovative post graduate training. 

Brooke Andersen, MSN, AGACNP-BC

Brooke Andersen graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center with her BSN in 2002 and her MSN, Acute Care NP in 2006. After graduation she relocated to the East Coast for her first NP job at the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center on the Trauma Surgical Team. She then transitioned to work in the critical care areas.

Brooke helped to create the NP Critical Care fellowship in 2011 and is now the Director of the fellowship program. The program enrolled its first cohort in 2012 and to date has had 19 fellows graduate from the program. In addition to the fellowship, she is the Senior Clinical Program Manager for the Advanced Practice Critical Care Team at Shock Trauma. She works clinically in the Critical Care Resuscitation Unit, the Lung Rescue Unit, Multi Trauma ICU, and Neuro Trauma ICU.  Brooke is enrolled in the University of Maryland Post Masters DNP program with an anticipated graduation in May 2023.

Andrew Rotjan, DNP, FNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, ENP-C, EMT-P, CHSE

Dr. Andrew Rotjan is a board-certified Adult-Gerontology Acute Care, Emergency, and Family Nurse Practitioner and serves as the Program Director of Advanced Clinical Providers for Northwell Health.  During his tenure, Dr. Rotjan has collaborated to design, implement, and co-direct the post-graduate training programs at Northwell Health which offers specialties in: Cardiothoracic Surgery, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Hospital Medicine, Neurology, Neuro-interventional radiology, oncology, orthopedics, primary care with foci in endocrinology and rheumatology, and general and trauma surgery.  He is also responsible for numerous education and administrative initiatives directly related to NP and PA practice. Additionally, Dr. Rotjan serves as adjunct faculty for the Hofstra-Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies and teaches for DNP, Family and Acute Care tracks. 

Dr. Rotjan maintains his clinical practice in the emergency departments at Northwell Health.  Dr. Rotjan is also the Co-Chair of the Education Committee for the American Academy of Emergency Nurse Practitioners.  He has both published and presented nationally on advanced practice and post-graduate education. Andrew obtained his family nurse practitioner and a post-masters certificate in emergency care from Rutgers University, followed by a post-masters in acute care from the University of Pennsylvania.  He completed his Doctor in Nursing Practice from Stony Brook University where al also obtained his BSN.  In his spare time, Andrew enjoys being a father and spending time outdoors.
